What are the best selling OOP titles?

Here is a list of the Top 10 selling DVDs on Amazon.com. This list is a current snapshot of the Amazon Sales Rank to determine the best selling out of print titles. The list is comprised of titles that fit the criteria that a) that Amazon.com has previously sold the title, but now no longer offers it, b) there are currently no re-releases, pending releases or no other editions in print before or since (discounting hi-def and UMD titles) and c) that MMM has announced it as discontinued. It should be understood in advance that this does not include user made pages, nor asian or other region DVDs. Stats are compiled as of April 14th, 2008. it is understood that these stats change by the hour, but they should be minimal in the short time that I make this listing.  So the list follows starting from the 10th position:

10) Long Way Round #7,930- A documentary TV mini-series starring Ewan McGregor and  Charley Boorman. Released by Goldhill Home Video and running at 400 minutes. The story sets around Ewan who sets on a motorcycle trip for 20,000 miles over 115 days. There are R2's and other versions which look like bootlegs, not sure where they come from. Average sell price is $47.00.

  9) The Masque of the Red Death/The Prematural Burial #6,932 - There might be some discrepency with this title, but needless to say, it is out of print and is, perhaps, the most popular OOP Midnite Movies title released from MGM/Fox. The double feature begins with Red Death which stars Vincent Price who dabbles in occultism and eventually has a midnite party in which Death himself visits Price. Nicholas Roeg is the cinematographer which might pique more interest in this title, as well as Roger Corman fans. The second part, Prematural Burial stars Ray Milland. Average sell price is $13.97.

8) Beautiful Girls #6,819 - A great ensemble cast starring Matt Dillon, Timothy Hutton, Uma Thurman and Natalie Portman. Portman was young in this film, but portrayed the intelligence of a 30-year old, and her performance was one of her finest in her short career. Directed by the late Ted Demme, this film was an instant classic in the small independent feature category. Supporting cast included Lauren Holly, Anabell Gish, Noah Emerich, Rosie O'Donnell and Mia Sorvino. Released by Miramax and Buena Vista in a standard keepcase with single insert page. Average sell price is $14.06

7) Little Mermaid II #3,726 - A straight to video effort from the Walt Disney Company. An entertaining offspring of the wildly successful and favorite Little Mermaid, this seems to appeal to Disney fanatics and young children primarily. Those that have an artistic or aesthetic appreciation of the Disney animated films have less regard for such entries. The DVD had a limited release and no pending re-release. Average sell price is $20.81.

 6) America: Freedom to Facism #1,526 - In the wake of such popular and controversial documentaries like Loose Change, Terrorstorm, Zeitgeist, and to some degree Fahrenheit 9/11 and Sicko, this documentary by Aaron Ross explores the world of the IRS and how it has impacted the coutries wealth, banking institutes, the government and the people. Reviews are very high with minimal scepticism (whereas Loose Change gets a little more resistance). This title had limited release in the theaters, while the aforementioned titles premiered on the internet (save the Michael Moore films). Released by Cinema Libre. Average sell price is $5.75

5) Yellow Submarine #1,126 - Original release from MGM had an uncertain time as to whether it was out of print or not. Large lots of brand new copies were showing up on eBay and FYE and people were spotting them at their local stores. Quickly they dried up and this remains one of the hottest titles on Amazon. The classic Beatles animated feature with such classic creatures as the Nowhere Man, Blue Meanies and of course, the Beatles singing most of their most famous material post Seargent Pepper. Released in a standard keepcase with colored insert booklet.  Average sell price is $29.25

 4) Pinocchio (Disney Gold Classic) #1,016 - Walt Disney is a staple in the out of print market. Disney as a whole is probably THE MOST bootlegged DVDs in the market, and for the obvious reason that they are always great sellers. Sadly, it does make legitimate copies more difficult to sell to unsuspecting parents or generally people who do not care as they are buying for their kids. Pinnochio, the second feature length Disney animated feature is out of print. Being from the Gold series, you may expect to see some Platinum edition in the near future. Average sell price is $24.26

3) Bambi #761- This is a personal favorite of mine from the Disney lot of animated features. From their Platinum series, Bambi tells the story of a young deer growing up in the woods with other furry critters as we explore his trials and tribulations. Most of Bambi's fears extend from the shadowy, but deadly "man". This was a relatively recent discontinuation, and although out of print, this was also one of the best selling DVDs of all time. This poses an issue if you are interested in making lots of money off of it. Needless to say, its a best seller and there is always room for one more to sell. Average sell price $17.15

2) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs #601 - Disney is by far the best out of print seller, even if the prices do not eclipse the triple digits, they are certified sellers. Quantity is another factor that does bring prices a little closer to the family budget as Disney makes enough to meet the demand. Even once they are discontinued, there is relatively enough to meet the demand, but enough room to make some capital interest on the purchase price. This was the first of the Platinum Editions released by Disney and did not come with a slipcase like the remaining versions, however, was in a double-disc keep case. Average sell price $32.14

1) Beauty and the Beast #220 - Walt Disney's modern classic that was the only feature animated film to be nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Picture. While it did not win, it remains one of the all-time greats of Disney animation as well as fan and family favorites. While Disney tends to be cyclic with their relreases, there is no current pending release for this title. There are plenty of bootlegs to be found on eBay and Amazon and does tend to keep prices of legitimate versions down, customers who want a real one will lay down for one. Original sealed copies came with a slip cover, and sold in a keep case with a flip tray for the 2 discs. Average sell price is $42.82.

Many of these numbers will change close to time of posting, but as an average of both Amazon Sales Rank and price average, they should stay pretty close. There is a possibility that some might be higher due to recent sales, slightly changing its rank, but thats how it goes.
