As an update in the DVD world, one of our forum members, SliceofHorse, noticed on DVDAficionado.com that there are two listings for John Carpenter's Master of Horror release Pro-Life. The two listings show two different covers, one that has been called the "Ultrasound" cover and the other the "Crib" cover. The "Ultrasound" cover has been listed as "DISCONTINUED" on DVDAfficionado, although other places are not discriminating the two versions. Yet, after finding the two versions in stores myself, I discovered that they display two different UPC's, which are as follows:
Ultrasound version:013138990280; Catalog No.: N9902
Crib Version: 013138992680; Catalog No.: N9926

You will also notice in the photos above the cover itself is quite different, not only in the main graphic, but also the font of the title is different. The back remains the same on both copies. Both copies come with respective slipcovers with the Crib edition having a big sticker pasted over the crib announcing it as a "Saturn Award Winning Series". Reports have stated that the Ultrasound version can be found at Borders and Target (not listed online) and possibly other places, while the Crib version is at Best Buy (online shows the ulatrasound cover) and, again, possibly other places. So it seems specifically seperated, although as as one noted at DVDTalk.com Forum, there will probably only retain one version of the DVD while the other one fades out.
Speculation about why it is discontinued settles upon that the cover is off-putting to show a baby in the womb with distorted limbs - monsterish. And so this is potentially controversial for see to some, and it also pushes the buttons of the whole pro-choice controversy. No indications that it was recalled or cancelled, but will probably just sell out the distributed copies. Nothing is confirmed or finalized by its studio Anchor Bay/Starz, and so speculation is high at the moment. I will keep you updated as I gather more information.
