Hot Cult November Releases

 This November has some very interesting and curious releases from some of our favorite cult studios. I thought I would share some of the titles that are up and coming. They are organized by studio.

 

Cult Epics

From cult director Olivier Smolder whose images will leave you haunted by ghostly visions. This DVD lists 10 short films. “In the realm of David Lynch, Peter Greenaway and Ingmar Bergman”. The short clip 'Adoration' was featured in Cinema of Death.

Subversive Cinema

 

This is a Limited Edition with 3 versions of the film being released: An R-rated version, the X-softcore version, and the X-hardcore version. This film stars the 70's sex icon Kristin DeBelle you may remember from the comedy hit Meatballs.

Originally slated to include the original CD Soundtrack, but it will no longer be released with it. Slated for a September 13th release, now pushed to December 4th due to changes.

Image/Criterion

  Perhaps the most anticipated Criterion release to come is this monster film from German maestro Rainer Werner Fassbinder. This epic film running around 15 hours is considered among his most important works. This set comes complete with 7 discs and insert. The special features are:

  • - New high-definition digital transfer from the 2006 restoration by the Fassbinder Foundation and Bavaria Media, supervised and approved by director of photography Xaver Schwarzenberger

  • - Hans-Dieter Hartl's 1980 documentary Notes on the Making of "Berlin Alexanderplatz"
