I know some have picked up on this, and others are starting to find them as they peruse, and I have been monitoring this for the past month now, but there is a fairly large amount of Paramount Picture titles that have recently been discontinued. Either being out of stock on Amazon, or announced through MMM, some classics are suddently out of print. I am not sure if this is Paramount reorganizing their catalog, or preparing for hi-def mode or if there are other legal entanglements that are in the way of keeping these on the market. At the moment, there is no set re-release for any of these titles, so at the moment, they all seem worth while pick-ups for your collection or, if found at a good enough price, perhaps to resell. Most, as you will see, are from the Paramount Widescreen collection.

We may also remember they recentlydisbanded the HD-DVD project, so there is not only the former Blu-ray titles, but newer HD-DVD titles (although the Blu-ray seems to be more readily available than it might appear). These are being tracked in the forum thread here, so I will refrain from any hi-def titles in this list.

Titles that appear with an asterisk (*) are recommended for monitor and research or buying while they are cheap. Two asterisks (**) are recommended to get soon. Three asterisks (***) are highly recommended.

Some differentiation of terms so this list is more readable: "Out of Stock" means Amazon still offers you to purchase, but is otherwise not readily avaible (i.e. special order). "No Longer Available" means Amazon does not have an offering and only third party sellers have copies. "Readily Available" means that Amazon still has it in stock for purchase, and also other sellers have copies for sale. "Out" on MMM means it is noted as still in print. "Discontinued" means it has been delisted from the studio as available for sale.

 Heller in Pink Tights (*) - Starring Sophia Loren. Out of stock on Amazon and discontinued on MMM.

 TheOut-of-Towners - Listed as discontinued on MMM, but readiy available on Amazon. 

Tracks - Listed as discontined on MMM and out of stock on Amazon. Starring Dennis Hopper. 

Fat Man and Little Boy - Starring Paul Newman. Out of Stock at Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

The Tenant(**) - An early Roman Polanski film with Isabelle Adjani. Listed as "out" from MMM, however, Not in stock on Amazon.

 The Lonely Man - Starring Jack Palance and Anthony Perkins in this 1957 western. Listed as "out" on MMM, but out of stock on Amazon or other resellers.

King Kong (1976) - Although this has been re-released, I put this here because this cover art is much better looking. I dont know if the features are different. 

Posse - A late John Wayne western from 1975. Out of stock on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM.

Flight of the Intuder - An action/war film from 1991 with Wllem DeFoe and Danny Glover. Out of stock on Amazon, and listed as discontinued on MMM.

The Elephant Man (***) - David Lynch's first Hollywood film, starring Anthony Hopkins, John Hurt and Anne Bancroft. If this stays out for any length of time, this would surely be a worthwhile pick-up. There are 2 covers. The original, showing the movie poster, is much better looking. Out of stock on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM.

Triumph of Love - Starring Mira Sorvina in a film from 2002. Listed as out of stock on Amazon, but still "out" as per MMM. 

Mahogany (*) - The classic Diana Ross film. Still readily available on Amazon, but listed as discontinued.

Schultze Gets the Blues - Out of stock on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

 Lifeguard - A 1975 film starring Sam Elliot and Ann Archer. Listed as "out" on MMM, but no longer available on Amazon and some select retailers.

The Gambler (**) - Recently mentioned in our forum. The classic gambling film starring James Caan. Out of stock on Amazon, listed as discontinued on MMM.

 Johnny Reno - A 1966 western with Dana Andrews and Jane Russell. Out of stock on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

Night Falls on Manhattan (***) - The original edition is from Republic Pictures, released back in 1997. This newer edition is now discontinued according to MMM and out of stock on Amazon.

The United States of Leland (*) - Discontinued on MMM and out of stock on Amazon. An independent film from 2002 starring Don Cheadle and Ryan Gosling. 

 The Brotherhood (*)- A mafia film starring Kirk Douglas. Listed as "out" on MMM, but no longer available on Amazon.

My Bloody Valentine (**) - As already mentioned in a previous list, this is one of your classic 80's slasher horror films. Listed as discontinued and out of stock on Amazon. 

Targets - An action thriller starring Boris Karloff. Listed as "out" on MMM, but out of stock on Amazon and other resellers.

Branded - A western starring Alan Ladd. Out of stock on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM. Other resellers seem to be out of this title as well.

Thief of Hearts - Listed as "out" on MMM, but no longer available on Amazon or most other reseller sites. 

 Leap of Faith (*) - Comedy starring Steve Martin. Listed as "out" on MMM, but out of stock on Amazon and most other resellers.

Frankie & Johnny (*) - The cute romantic comedy starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino. Listed as "out" on MMM, but no longer available on Amazon or other resellers.

 Riding High - A relatively unknown Frank Capra film starring Bing Crosby. Listed as discontinued from MMM, but readily available.

 Back to the Beach - A revival film with Franki Avalon and Annette Funacello as we see a couple in their 50's reprise their roles from the 50's. No longer available on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

Warning Shot - Starring Ed Begley. Out of Stock on Amazon, listed as "out" on MMM.

Matchmaker (*) - A 1958 classic starring Anthony Perkins and Shirley Booth. Out of stock on Amazon and most other resellers. MMM lists this as "out".

 A Breath of a Scandal (*) - From 1960 starring Sophia Loren and Maurice Chevalier, and directed by Michael Curtiz. No longer available on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead - A recent film from 2003 starring Clive Owen. Out of Stock on Amazon, listed as "out" on MMM.

Beautician and the Beast (**) - Looks as though this has been discontinued for a while, judging from copies available and price offered. Discontinued on MMM and no longer available on Amazon. 

The Tin Star (**)- A western starring Henry Fonda and Anthony Perkins, directed by Anthony Mann. No longer available on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM.

The Education of the Little Tree (**) - A family film. No longer available on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM. 

Nobody's Fool (***) - Starring Paul Newman, Jessica Tandy and Melanie Griffith. A great item! No longer available on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM.

Odd Couple II (**)- The return of the two great roomates, Jack Lemmon and Walter Mattheau. Listed as "out" on MMM, but out of stock on Amazon.

 Danger: Diabolik (*) -  A later effort from cult director Mario Bava.  This also ended up being the very final episode for Mystery Science Theater 3000. Out of stock on Amazon, and listed as discontinued on MMM.

200 Cigarettes (*) - There are actually 2 editions listed on MMM with 2 different UPCs. Both versions released on the same day in 1999 with UPC 097363349341 and  097363349372 with identical covers. It may be the difference of full and widescreen, but I don't know for certain. Both editions are out of stock on Amazon.

  Daisy Miller (*) - A period piece starring Cybil Shepard directed by Peter Bagdanovich. No lonoger available on Amazon and discontinued on MMM.

Bopha! (*) - Starring Danny Glover and Malcolm McDowell, directed by Morgan Freeman. Out of stock on Amazon, and listed as "out" on MMM.

 Play it Again, Sam (***) - Previously noted in this article. Starring Woody Allen and Diane Lane in their first film (although not directed by Woody Allen). Out of stock on Amazon, and discontinued on MMM.

  Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy (***) - As noted from forum member DougieZero (thanks!). From the comedy hit series Kids in the Hall in the movie length version of their comedy. Readily available on Amazon, but listed as discontinued on MMM.

Our Lady of the Assassins - Out of stock on Amazon and listed as "out"on MMM. 

New Year's Day - Romantic drama starring David Duchoveny. Out of stock on Amazon and listed as disconinued by MMM.

Red Garters (*)- A cheeky comedy starring Rosemary Clooney and Jack Garson. Listed as "out" on MMM, but out of stock on Amazon. 

Bride of the Wind (*) - A 2002 drama starring Sarah Wynter, Jonathan Pryce, directed by Bruce Beresford. No longer available on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

The Assassinations Bureau (*) - Starring Oliver Reed and Diana Rigg (doesn't that look like Antonio Banderas on that cover?).  Listed as dicontinued on MMM, and no longer available on Amazon.

Seconds (***) - Classic thriller from John Frankenheimer. This DVD also includes a commentary by director Frankenheimer, perhaps, his last before he died some 6 months later after the release of the DVD. Listed as discontinued on MMM and out of stock on Amazon. Originally reported here.

Joseph Andrews (*) - Starring Ann-Margret and  Peter Firth. Out of Stock on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

Goodbye, Columbus - Starring Ali McGraw and Jack Klugman. Out of stock on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM. 

I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can - No longer available on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

The Strange Love of Martha Ivers - A higher quality version of this public domain film. Starring Kirk Douglas and Barbara Stanwyk. Out of stock on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM.

That Was Then, This is Now (**) - I think this has been discontinued for a while. Starring Emilio Estevez based on the S. E. Hinton book. No longer available on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM. 

Let it Ride (*) - Starring Paul Newman in this horse racing and gambling film. No longer available on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

  The Fan (*) - Starring Lauren Bacall and James Garner. This is the original 1961 version. No longer available on Amazon, but listed as "out" on MMM.

 

 My First Mister (*) - Starring Albert Brooks. No longer available on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM.

Medium Cool (***) - Starring Robert Forster and directed by Haskell Wexler. A great piece of political revolution in 60's Chicago. Out of stock on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM. Reported first here in this article.

 An American Rhapsody (**) - Starring Natassja Kinskiand a young Scarlett Johansson. No longer available on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM.

 Bloody Sunday (***) - An early Paul Greengrass film starring Peter Nesbitt. No longer available on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM.

The Way Home (**) - A Japanese film. Out of stock on Amazon and listed as discontinued on MMM.

Real Life - Starring James L. Brooks. Out of stock on Amazon. Listed as "out" on MMM.

 Funeral in Berlin (***) - Currently this is  Readily Available on Amazon, although this has been discontinued for sometime now. It is still a nice pick up despite Amazon's continual replenishing of this title as its a classic.

Well, that wraps up this list of Paramount titles. This is as exhaustive as I want to get for a studio list. Paramount releases PBS and other assorted studio titles that I have not included for obvious reasons.
