Stanley Kubrick
As mentioned in a posting in our forum, a brand new copy of Clockwork Orange sold for around $550.00. While it remains suspect, a selection of Warner Brothers Stanley Kubrick films are now out of print. What remains are the Criterion and MGM films which are still readily available. Here is a list of the latest in chronological order of Kubricks filmography.
Flying Parade (1951)
The Day of Flight (1951)
Fear and Desire (1953)
The Seafarers (1953)
While these titles have never been officially released (I believe as per Mr. Kubrick's instructions), these are available through an eBay seller if you are a Kubrick completist.
Killer's Kiss (1955) - This title is from MGM and still available.
The Killing (1956) - This title is from MGM and still available.
Paths of Glory (1957) - This title is from MGM and still available.
Spartacus (1960) - This title is from Universal and this edition is out of print.
Spartacus (1960) - This title is from Criterion Collection and is still in print.
Lolita (1962) - This title originally an MGM title borrowed by Warner Bros., is still available. (Incidentally, the newer version from Andrian Lynne is out of print. An unrated version was never released).
Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) - Both the Special Edition and the 40th Anniversary Editions are in print from Sony Pictures, although originally released by Warner Bros.
Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) - This version released from Warner is out of print making way for the above versions.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - Released a year before recorded landing on the mood. This title from Warner Bros. is still in print. Originally an MGM title.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - This edition from Creative Designs is now out of print.
A Clockwork Orange (1972) - This edition from Warner Bros. is out of print.
Clockwork Orange (1972) - This version from Creative Designs is out of print.
Barry Lyndon (1977)- This title from Warner Bros., is still in print.
The Shining (1980) - This title from Warner Bros. is still in print.
Full Metal Jacket (1987) - This title is from Warner Bros. and is still in print.
Eyes Wide Shut (1999) - This title is from Warner Bros. and is still in print.
Eyes Wide Shut (1999) - This edition from Warner Bros. was the first version (before the collection) and is now out of print.
Stanley Kubrick Collection - This edition which features the documentary "A Life in Pictures" is still in print from Warner Bros.
Stanley Kubrick Collection - This is the first edition of the Collection sans the documentary and is out of print.
Stanley Kubrick - A Life in Pictures Collector's Box Set - This is a yet to be released title from Warner that comes with a DVD and book.
Film Fest DVD, Issue 6 - Movie Making in the New Millennium - This DVD features a selection about Kubrick and tribute to his work and the personality of those that knew him.
While it appears that most of his works are still available, Clockwork Orange is out on all counts of recognition. Perhaps there is a revamping of this classic work (are they going to include the 5 seconds of film that changed it from an 'X' Rating to an 'R' Rating?). Who knows. Kubrick is a personal favorite of mine and so its nice to be able to write a little about him. I am certain there are a few fans out there in our forum who express similar ideals. Thankfully, in the end, we are spared of having to shell out large sums of money to enjoy his cinematic genius. And then he wept.
