Toy Story 1 & 2 to be put back in the vault

Toy Story 1 & 2 dvds are now back in the vault. These perennial favorites from Pixar are among the most successful computer-animated films ever produced. Like The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan Disney titles, these went back into the vault at the end of January '09.

Why are these of interest? Well, not only are they two of the greatest animated films ever made (and you shouldn't miss out on a chance to own them), but also because the circumstances bear a striking similarity to what happened with The Nightmare Before Christmas a couple years ago, e.g., the dvds going in the vault (out-of-print) in a lead-up to the 3-D theatrical release. We all remember what happened with the prices on The Nightmare Before Christmas dvds at that time.

Here's a timeline:

January 31, 2009 -- Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition and Toy Story 2: Special Edition "back in the vault".
October 2, 2009 -- Toy Story is released theatrically in 3-D.
February 10, 2010 -- Toy Story 2 hits theaters with its own 3-D release.
June 18, 2010 -- Toy Story 3 is released theatrically with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprising their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear (no word yet on whether it will also be in 3-D or not).

According to ultimatedisney.com, new dvd (and Blu-Ray) editions of both Toy Story 1 & 2 will not follow until fall 2010. This leaves a year or so window of potentially much increased demand for these dvds, with no more being printed. So if you don't yet have a copy, now is the time to get 'em!
