Twin Peaks is Truly made of Gold!

Today is a momentous occasion with the release of the unique and exciting DVD box set: the glorious Twin Peaks Gold Box. Fans have literally waited years to see it all come together in this special set and they will not be let down one bit once they open it. When Season One of the Twin Peaks television show was discontinued, it sent collectors and fans reeling to grab them while they can. Soon prices soared well into the $200.00 range for new copies. As the second season release came out, word spread of a new boxed set that was being released that culminated into this fine release.

This boxed set has a remastered version of both season one and two and includes the never released pilot on this 10-disc set. Yes, the pilot that has been in continual demand on eBay all are either Japanese imports or bootlegs of some sort.

Once you realize that there is a lot of watching to do on the set including the many hours of extras and commentaries (some by Lynch himself, and including the original cast as well), then you can get to the fun stuff! (Incidentally, it is reported that commentaries on the original sets are not included here). Inside each set you will receive about 12 postcards. These 12 postcards are part of an entire 61 card set, so every box will contain different cards. If you want the entire set, my best bet would be to continually to check eBay, probably do some trading, or buy yourself about 5 copies of the DVD set and hope for the best.

In addition to this, there are limited edition "Gold" postcards and "Wildcards", each limited to various amounts. Here is the breakdown according to TwinPeaksArchives.com.

(560) – A Gold Foil Parallel Postcard, 1 for every 107 boxes
(56) – A Gold Foil Parallel Postcard autographed by David Lynch, 1 for every 1,072 boxes
(80) – A “Wildcard” Postcard, 1 for every 750 boxes
(35) – A Gold Foil “Wildcard” Postcard, 1 for every 1,714 boxes
(4) – A Gold Foil “Wildcard” Postcard autographed by David Lynch, 1 for every 15,000 boxes

You can view the entire collection of the postcards here at GreetingsfromTwinPeaks.com. You can view the limited edition cards and signed editions within their collection. You can also visit TwinPeaksGazette.com for more information, as well as the author himself, DavidLynch.com for other cool stuff.

If my math is correct, based on what is written above, there are only 60,000 boxes that will have postcards in them. To my estaimte, that is a pretty small number for such a release. We can consider the Limited Edition Disney Tins which peaked around 200,000 for one of the sets, while they average around 125,000 per set. So, in relation, with hardcore Twin Peaks fans and that Amazon rank as of this writing is #2, its going to be a hot item. I can only imagine who the lucky 4 will be getting those David Lynch Autographed Wild Cards. So grab them while you can.

Just as a note, I believe the postcards will not be offered after the initial 60,000, but I am not absolutely certain on that. I will keep you posted.
